Katy Gordon, our candidate in Glasgow North, has just been recognised in Total Politics as a “face to watch” in their feature on the GE in Scotland. While a magazine for political obsessives probably won’t swing the vote in Maryhill, it’s encouraging that Katy’s being recognised for all the great work she’s doing here.

We’ve had an Action Weekend over the last couple of days here in Glasgow. It’s been really successful – anyone who’s ever campaigned in a target seat knows full well that realistic goals aren’t generally a feature of delivery days, but we reached our target and we’re well on the way to getting the whole constituency covered.
The best part of it is, the literature we’re distributing is fantastic. It’s an Annual Report, so it’s glossy and easy to shove through letterboxes without crumpling. It’s full of bright, happy looking people in bright, happy looking photos, and it has a nice long list of all the things Katy’s done for Glasgow North (which doesn’t actually include everything). It looks really professional and attractive, the sort of thing you’ll actually read.
Contrast that with the current MP’s Annual Report. Colourless, drab, long lists of boring policy statements. A grid of rather dull-looking photos on the back, showing the MP doing pretty much nothing. One has her meeting Mikey from Big Brother, as it’s rather excitedly captioned. As a constituent, I’m not really happy paying £60,000 a year to let her meet D-list celebrities.
I reckon this is a fairly good comparison of the two competitors. One bright, active, working hard; the other creaky, old, not really trying. Let’s hope the voters see it that way.
